Health and new life energy

With the unique power of nature from the depths of the Hohe Tauern Mountains

Gastein Thermal Therapy
More than 40 years of medical experience at the St. Georg health center and the exceptionally effective forms of natural therapy available here in Gastein valley: the Gastein hot springs, the unique Gastein healing galleries, and the Gastein vapor bath all achieve considerable success as part of the Gastein cure, which is based on a variety of applications of radon therapy. Among the main effective factors are  the gas radon, the warmth, and the high humidity in the Gastein Heilstollen and the Gastein vapor bath. The radon therapy activates mechanisms which regulate the immune system and inhibit inflammation, and this leads to long lasting alleviation of pain.

What is radon and how does it work?
Mild, natural radioactivity has only positive effects on the body when applied as a curative treatment. The inert gas emanates from the thermal water and enters the body through the respiratory tract and the skin. Then, its healing properties go to work immediately before it completely degrades after about 3 hours. The immune system is stimulated, and the natural warmth promotes circulation.

The most important indications
Besides quick regeneration and revitalization, strengthening of the immune system, and preventative health care, the Gastein thermal cure is also especially effective for the treatment of the following illnesses:
diseases of the musculoskeletal system, Bechterew's disease (ankylosing spondylitis), chronic polyarthritis (rheumatoid arthritis), psoriatic arthritis, other forms of arthroses (also finger polyarthrosis), spinal syndrome, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis pain, neuralgia, polyneuropathy, sports injuries, sarcoidosis, respiratory illnesses, chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, chronic sinusitis, hay fever, skin diseases, psoriasis vulgaris, neurodermitis, delayed wound healing, scleroderma.

The Gastein healing springs – invigorating and revitalizing
The Gastein springs, whose water is pumped right into our hotel, bubble forth from 17 different sources at the foot of the Graukogel. Most of the springs are located at an elevation between 1034 and 937 m and have a temperature of 44°C, with a radon gas content that varies between 52-66.2 nCi/l. The Gastein thermal water thus has a low mineral content in contrast to the many cold springs found in Gastein valley (for example, in the world-famous Gastein mineral water).

The Gastein Heilstollen – unique throughout the world
The Gastein Heilstollen is the most effective spa treatment in Gastein and the most effective natural treatment for rheumatic diseases. The healing climate in the therapy area of the Gastein Heilstollen is characterized by a pleasant warmth of 37 to 41.5 degrees, a high humidity between 70 and 100%, and an increased natural radon content of 44 Bq/l in the galleries (on average), all of which interact perfectly together. Muscles and joints are relaxed, and the mountain bestows new energy. After only a short time you too will feel the positive effects on body, mind and soul!

Optimal healing results thanks to altitude
Healing success is enhanced by the altitude of the Gastein spa region (800 m – 1200 m).
Our body adjusts to the elevation by producing more red blood cells and increasing the delivery of oxygen to the tissues. With an appropriate exercise program, your performance ability will also increase.
